Instaview: Bex Tweedy

Meet Bex Tweedy, our new Events Assistant, in this week’s Instaview.

What was the best event you have worked at and why?

As I’m quite new to the event industry, this question was a little harder for me to answer as I have only ever volunteered at events. Back in 2013, I applied to be part of the 2015 Rugby World Cup volunteer force. After months and years of different applications and auditions, I was finally offered a role in the Opening Ceremony! This was the start of a long rehearsal process and numerous weeks of early mornings, travelling for hours to Twickenham but it was one of the best experiences I have ever had. Standing next to the legend Martin Johnson, seeing Shane Williams on the pitch and hearing the whole of Twickeham singing ‘I vow to thee my country’ was an emotional experience!

How did you get into events?

I studied International Events Management at the University of Brighton. I chose to study this course as I have always had a passion for events and I’m the kind of person who is very hands on. I love challenges and find watching an event go through the whole cycle, from an idea to completion, fascinating. At University, I put theory into practice by putting on a variety of different events with course mates.

What are your hobbies and interests?

My biggest passion is rugby. I played for eight years until I had to give up due to injuries to my head and back. Whilst playing, I have always been involved with the social and coaching side as well. I started my rugby career at Colchester Rugby Club where I was part of the first girls team set up at the club! A few weeks in, I was selected for Eastern Counties and this then led on to me being selected for London and South East trials where I was successful! This is still one of my greatest achievements and I even had the opportunity to play against Scotland. At University I was Captain and President of the women’s rugby team.

I also love spending quality time with my family and friends, I’m a very sociable person and love to be outside or socialising in a pub! I can’t name many sports I haven’t played. I love being part of a team which I think is essential when working in the events industry!

I also love travelling and visiting new places! My most recent holiday was to Dubai to see my best friend Daisy who lives there. It was an incredible trip and I can’t wait to go back!

Tell us something not many people know about you?

I LOVE singing! I was always part of the choir at primary and high school and I have even completed my Grade 8 singing exam. When I was in primary school we sung on GMTV and also Songs of Praise after getting through a major competition which was incredible!

Greatest Achievements

Graduating from The University of Brighton has to be one of my top achievements.

Being selected to be a member of the RFU National Youth Council is also up there as it gave me so many unforgettable memories and experience, such as meeting Prince Harry recently. The National Youth Council also led me being asked to sit on the RFU Rugby Growth subcommittee, sitting alongside my hero Maggie Alphonsi.
